With the September release, H5P.com continues to become a little easier to use, more accessible, and more robust - both in the authoring experience you see every day and in the infrastructure working behind the scenes. 

🤖 Smart Import Improvements  

Seamless Source Selection

We’ve improved the Smart Import source selection experience - source selection is now clearer and more consistent, with information preserved when switching tabs and validation limited to the active source.

Language & Content Quality 

We’ve improved Smart Import’s content quality and localization for French and Spanish, making generated learning materials more natural, fluent, and linguistically accurate.  

Generated questions and activities now produce completely standalone content by stripping out distracting meta-references like “Based on the text,” “According to the document,” or “In the flyer.”  

Additionally, for French (fr-FR), Smart Import now adheres to standard French typography rules by properly incorporating non-breaking spaces (NBSP) around punctuation marks (such as « citation », pourquoi ?, bravo !, étape ;, 50 %), abbreviations (etc.), honorifics (M. Dupont, Mme Martin), page and item numbers (p. 12, n° 2), listing numbers (1.), and dates or time units (18 septembre, 10′).

Content-Type Icons in My Content and All Content

Managing content in H5P.com is now easier at a glance. The My Content and All Content lists now use icons specific to each content type instead of generic file icons, making it quicker to recognize and navigate different types of content in your library. 

Official H5P Favicon for Light and Dark Themes

The H5P.com browser favicon now uses the official H5P logo and is optimized for both light and dark browser themes, making H5P.com easier to spot when you have multiple tabs or windows open. 

Refreshed Text Fields and Selection Menus in the Editor

We’re also taking care of the smaller details. We’ve refreshed the styling of text fields and selection menus throughout the authoring experience. Subtle rounded corners and the removal of inner shadows give the editor a cleaner, more modern appearance, helping keep the focus on creating content. 

🌐 More usable and accessible learning experiences

We are continuously working to make learning experiences seamless and inclusive for everyone. In this update, we’ve introduced accessibility enhancements to improve how content behaves with screen readers, keyboard navigation, and individual motion preferences.

Accurate Screen Reader Announcements on Interactive Book Summaries 

Screen reader users will now have a clearer, less confusing experience when reviewing their work on the Interactive Book summary screen.

Previously, submission confirmation messages could be read aloud prematurely before a learner clicked submit, creating uncertainty around whether answers were sent. We’ve updated how assistive technologies detect this status, ensuring that the submission confirmation is only announced once learners actively submit their answers, giving them confidence and clarity throughout the process.

Seamless Media Playback in Course Presentations

Presentations now deliver an immediate, engaging experience from the very first moment learners open them.

Videos configured with autoplay on the introductory slide of a Course Presentation will now start playing automatically upon load across all supported modern browsers when browser permissions allow.

Previously, autoplay only triggered when transitioning between subsequent slides, requiring extra clicks to start introductory content.

Clearer Focus Outlines for Keyboard Navigation

To make navigation effortless for keyboard, we’ve strengthened the visual focus indicators on Interactive Book summary navigation controls, including the Previous and Fullscreen buttons as well as the dropdown menu.

These controls now feature high-contrast, theme-aware focus outlines that remain sharp and visible against custom coloured headers and backgrounds, making it simple to track your position across the page at a glance.

Comfortable, Reduced-Motion Experiences Across Activities

For learners who experience motion sensitivity or visual distractions from animated transitions, activities such as Flashcards, Memory Game, and Single Choice Set now automatically respect your device’s prefers-reduced-motion settings.

Fast-moving animations and card flips are smoothly bypassed or simplified when reduced motion is enabled, delivering a calm, focused learning environment that adapts directly to individual comfort and accessibility needs.

🛡️ Security & Platform Reliability

Resilient LMS Account & Verification Flows

When instructors or authors update their email address during an active verification step while inserting content through an LTI integration, they are now prompted to request a new confirmation code. This resolves an issue that could display the error: Call to a member function isVerified() on null.

LTI JWT library security upgrade

As communicated earlier in August, we will upgrade the JWT library used by our LTI integrations as part of the September release.

The updated library includes important security improvements and strengthens authentication security between your LMS and our platform.

As part of this upgrade, our platform will require RSA keys of 2048 bits or larger for LTI authentication.

If you manage an LTI integration with our platform, please ensure that the RSA key configured in your LMS is 2048 bits or larger before the upgrade.

No action is required if your LTI integration already uses an RSA key of 2048 bits or larger.
