New Smart Import - Create Better Content, Faster

The new Smart Import brings together a simpler experience and smarter content generation to help you turn source material into engaging H5P activities faster. 

With the redesign, creating content now takes just two simple steps: add your source and choose the H5P activities you want to generate. The streamlined workflow makes Smart Import easier to navigate, while the upgraded brain behind it, introduced in July, delivers better-structured content, stronger results, and more reliable generation.  

Together, these improvements make Smart Import simpler to use, more powerful in what it creates, and more dependable from start to finish.

What has changed 

Previously, creating content with Smart Import required moving through a multi-step process across different stages. Each stage involved manual review or action, with notifications prompting you to return and continue until the content was ready to generate.

The new workflow reduces this to just two steps - all within a single modal dialog: 

1. Upload your source: paste a URL for your website or video, paste text, or upload a file.

2. Select your activities: browse available activity types in a categorized, visual selector and hit “Generate”.

That's it. Everything else - text extraction, concept analysis, content generation - happens automatically behind the scenes. 

As part of our ongoing effort to expand language support in Smart Import, Spanish is now the first language beyond English to move from Beta to Supported. Going forward, we’ll continue improving support for the other languages available in Smart Import, guided by how they are used and feedback we receive.

What's better for you

• Faster to start, faster to finish - The entire flow now lives in a streamlined modal. No more navigating between pages or losing your place. 
• Spanish language fully supported - Spanish has graduated from Beta to a supported language in Smart Import. 
• Visual activity selector - Instead of a plain list, activities are now shown with icons, descriptions, and organized by category, making it easier to understand what each activity type does and pick the right ones for your content. A counter shows how many activities you've selected.
• Real-time generation status – Generation happens within the Smart Import modal, which can be closed if you need to work elsewhere – your Imports list will always show the status of generation.
• Fewer email interruptions - You'll no longer receive an email at every step of the process. A single notification is sent when your content is ready.  
• Better error handling - If something goes wrong during generation, you'll see a clear error message with the option to go back and try again, instead of being left wondering what happened.

The new Smart Import workflow is available in our Premium and Enterprise plans.   

Backward compatibility

Your existing imported content is unaffected. Any imports that were in progress at the time of the update will continue to progress through the steps the old way. 

H5P now supports Moodle 5.2

H5P is now compatible with Moodle 5.2, allowing organizations to upgrade to the latest Moodle version while continuing to create, manage, and use H5P content.

This release also includes improvements to the reliability and safety of H5P content upgrades, helping ensure a smoother experience when updating existing activities.

Accessibility: Improved Keyboard Navigation in Drag the Words 

Keyboard navigation in Drag the Words no longer breaks after a mouse drag is cancelled. Previously, if a user picked up a word with the mouse and dropped it outside the drop zone, keyboard focus could not return to the draggable items, trapping keyboard-only users. 

• Tab and arrow key navigation now works correctly after any cancelled drag action.

• Improves WCAG 2.1.1 (Keyboard) and 2.1.2 (No Keyboard Trap) compliance in H5P Group’s Accessibility Compliance Report published in April 2026.

H5P Logo Now Clickable for Navigation

Users can now click the H5P logo in the top navigation to return to their content library (All Content) at any time, without hunting for a “Home” link or relying on the browser’s back button. 

This makes navigating the workspace faster, simpler, and more intuitive. 

Lighter Modal Overlay

Modal dialog overlays are now less obtrusive, with opacity reduced from 80% to 40%, making it easier to maintain context of the content behind the modal while interacting with dialog prompts.
