To set up H5P.com in Blackboard you need to:
Part 1: Add Blackboard as a "tool consumer" in H5P.com
Step 1: Log in to H5P.com as an admin user with your e-mail address as user name and your password.
Step 2: Go to Manage Organization
Step 3: Go to "Connect LMS"
Step 4: Select your LMS. Fill in "Blackboard" or something similar in the Connection name field, Choose LTI v1.1, and click "Save".
Note: If you want to use LTI v1.3 please follow this tutorial
Note down the data marked in the picture below: (1) URL to endpoint,(2) Key, and (3) Secret. You'll see the Secret by hovering over the eye icon.
Part 2: Add H5P.com as an LTI Tool Provider in Blackboard
You have now got everything set up at H5P.com and we move over to Blackboard.
Step 1: Log in to Blackboard as an administrator
Step 2: Select "Admin" in the left menu
Step 3: In the "Administrator Panel" under "Integrations" select "LTI Tool Providers"
Step 4: On the "LTI Tool Providers" page select "Register LTI 1.1 Provider"
Step 5: Fill in the form like this:
- Provider domain: must be on the form: "organization-subdomain.h5p.com". Important: No "https://" in front of "/lti" at the end
- Default configuration: Check "Set globally"
- The tool provider key and Tool provider secret is the Key and Secret you got from H5P.com (ref Part 1 Step 4)
- Send user data: Send user data only over SSL
- User fields to send: A role in the course is required, and name and e-mail are recommended to make content and user management easy
- Allow membership service access: Recommended
Click Submit. See the image below.
Step 6: In the "LTI Tool Providers" list, find the tool provided that you just added. Click on the arrow next to it and select "Manage Placements"
Part 3: Create a new Placement
Step 1: In the "Manage Placements" page click "Create Placement"
Step 2: Fill in the form like this:
- Label: The name you want to use for the tool, for instance, "H5P" - This is the label that will show up for the author in the course
- Handle: The unique ID, for instance, can be "h5p-course-content-tool"
- Type: Check "Deep Linking content tool"
- Check "Allow student access" below it
- Tool Provider URL: This is the "URL to endpoint" from H5P.com, typically in the form https://[organization-subdomain].h5p.com/lti. You must use the link for your organization that you got in part 1 step 4
And click Submit. See the image below. The last field marked in red (Tool Provider URL) must be replaced with data from H5P.com (Part 1 Step 4)
Step 3: On the "LTI Tool Providers" page select "Manage Global Properties"
Step 4: Under "Feature availability" find the option "Allow configured tool providers to post grades" and select "Yes".
This will allow scores to be sent through. Click Submit.
Part 4: Verify that it works
Everything is now set up. To make sure that it works we're going to add an H5P to a course
Step 1: Log in as an instructor.
Step 2: Go to an existing or create a new course.
Note that the way you add H5P within a course is different depending on the theme/version of Blackboard that you are using. Below are the steps:
- Part 4.1: Blackboard Original and Blackboard Ultra (Original Course View) and
- Part 4.2: Blackboard Ultra (Ultra Course View)
Part 4.1: Blackboard Original and Blackboard Ultra (Original Course View)
Step 1: Select "Content" in the left menu
Step 2: Select "Build Content" in the top menu
Step 3: Select "H5P Content" in the dropdown menu
H5P.com will launch and you may insert a new or an existing H5P.
Step 4: Select "Add Content" to create new or upload existing content
Step 5: Select "Insert" to insert content into Blackboard course
Part 4.2: Blackboard Ultra (Ultra Course View)
Step 1: Within the "Books and Tools" section click on "View course & institution tools".
Step 2: Scroll down the "Book & Course Tools" popup that just appeared on the right side.
At the very bottom, you will see the link: Browse All Course Tools. Click on this link
The content Market page will open.
Step 3: Under "Institution tools" find and select "H5P Content"
H5P.com will launch and you may insert a new or an existing H5P.
Step 4: Select "Add Content" to create a new or upload an existing H5P
Step 5: Select "Insert" to insert content into the Blackboard course
