When uploading a video directly to H5P.com, you might also upload a VTT file to add captions, subtitles, or descriptions to your videos. This also works with a direct URL to a media file, for example, this. Additionally, you can now generate closed captions automatically thanks to our Smart Import feature.
Note: that does not apply to external video platforms
The supported file format for captions is .VTT, and it should follow this structure:
WEBVTT
00:00:00.500 --> 00:00:02.000
The Web is always changing
00:00:02.500 --> 00:00:04.300
and the way we access it is changing
For guidance on creating an optimal WEBVTT file, you can use this resource: MDN WebVTT Guide

- Choose the display name for your text track.
- Select the type of text track (captions, subtitles, or descriptions).
- Set the source language.
- Click "+ Add" to upload your WEBVTT file.
Here's an example of an Interactive Video with Captions enabled:
Smart Import Transcription for Closed Captions
When choosing the video upload method when generating H5Ps using Smart Import, the powerful AI tool will generate closed captions based on the audio transcript. This will occur automatically when uploading the video file into Smart Import, making your Interactive Videos more accessible. So if your organization is subscribed to our Premium feature, you can now test this new feature!
