The Smart Import AI engine is a highly advanced tool that is learning at an impressive rate. Currently, it excels in processing and understanding declarative knowledge, which is information found in textbooks and encyclopedias. The engine is still learning how to handle procedural knowledge, such as how to ride a bike or build a website, as this requires a greater level of contextual understanding. Currently, the best results are achieved with content that is rich in declarative knowledge.
To better show Smart Import, we have created this Step by Step video tutorial so you can also create engaging H5Ps using this feature.
What Works the Best
Smart Import performs best with content that is structured, factual, informative, and contains explicit knowledge such as acts, ideas, topics, principles, and concepts. This type of content is typically found in instructional or educational materials.
This is commonly called Declarative Knowledge (we are quite good at it); Declarative knowledge is the explicit understanding of facts, ideas, topics, principles, and concepts. It is the who, what, when, and where of information and involves knowing that something exists (definitional knowledge) or is true or false (propositional knowledge).
This is opposed to procedural knowledge, which involves knowing how to do something.
Smart Import is ideal for creating assessments that evaluate a person's ability to recognize and recall specific information, key concepts, and theories. It can also evaluate a person's ability to explain causal relationships based on explicit knowledge.
What May Not Work Yet
Content that is highly subjective or expressive, such as a blog post, or requires higher-order thinking to understand, such as a course on how to raise money, may not work as well with Smart Import.
The engine may struggle with long and complex sentences, implied causal relationships, or implicit themes.
Know that vs Know-how
Procedural knowledge involves knowing how to do something, such as riding a bike or building a website. It involves implicit learning and a higher level of understanding. The Smart Import engine is still learning how to handle this type of knowledge, but it is expected to be able to handle it soon with its growing contextual understanding.
Content Currently Being Ignored
Smart Import is best suited for Textual Learning purposes, i.e. it ignores:
- Mathematical equations
- Chemical Reactions
- Physics Numericals
- Spreadsheets.
- Images with diagrams, drawing
