Thanks to our most recent Smart Import update, it is possible for authors to customize their H5Ps, based on their audience's needs, and therefore be able to follow learning objectives.
This additional Smart Import feature further empowers the content creators, allowing them to generate activities that are better aligned to their students' skills by offering a more in-depth customization option.
The overall look and feel of Smart Import will remain the same, with the exception of this additional optional setting. After uploading a content source, creators can prompt the generative AI to tailor H5Ps according to the specified learning objectives.
Customization Examples
For these examples, we used the article Our Sun: Facts as the source to demonstrate the flexibility and effectiveness of the Smart Import Customization feature.
We’ll cover:
- No Customization
- Customizing Based On User Groups
- Customizing Focused On User Output
- Customizing With Learning Objectives
Additionally, we’ll discuss:
No Customization
Without customization (or using the basic Smart Import), the generative AI processes the entire content source to extract key concepts.
This approach provides a broad overview without focusing on specific objectives or audiences.
For example, using the article; Our Sun: Facts, the key concepts generated
Customizing Based On User Groups
The customization feature can tailor content for specific user groups.
Example prompt: Make the content relevant for 6-year-olds.
Using this input, Smart Import adjusts the concepts and tone of the content to be age-appropriate. For example, a Question Set tailored to 6-year-olds presents simplified language and relatable concepts, making the material engaging and easy to understand.
Customizing Focused On User Output
Authors can now also decide to give more importance to a specific idea or areas of the source provided, thanks to the customization feature.
Example prompt: Focus on the planets and dwarf planets.
In this case, Smart Import chose and organized important ideas focused on planets and dwarf planets, making the content creation process more straightforward without the need for additional work from the author.
Customizing With Learning Objectives
Smart Import enables users to align content with specific learning objectives.
Example prompt: The learner should be able to explain the main events in the formation of the solar system.
The final product highlights pertinent ideas, guaranteeing that every resource supports the specified learning objective. The H5P exercise, for instance, could lead students through the significant occasions in the solar system's formation while reiterating the goal at every stage.
What Works Best
- Focused instructions: The best outcomes are obtained when prompts instruct the AI to give particular concepts or portions of the content priority.
- Rich, well-structured inputs: The quality and accuracy of the generated content are improved by using comprehensive, detailed sources (such as properly formatted articles or documents).
What Doesn’t Work as Expected
- Format-based instructions: Since Smart Import already has built-in content types, like summaries, prompts like "Create a summary of less than 300 words" are redundant.
- Instructions outside the input scope: When the input is restricted to the solar system, requests that go beyond the supplied source material—for example, "Explain the formation of the Universe"—cannot be completed.
Prompt Templates
Use prompts such as these to get the most out of Smart Import:
- The learner should be able to explain…
- Make the content relevant for…
- Focus on…
